本研究以身體、心理、社會健康面條指標，分析臺灣老人成功老化與活躍老化情形，並探討個人因素和地區特性之影響。方法：來原為「臺灣地區老人保健與生活問題長期蹤調查系列研究調查」1999年，70歲以上樣本共2,310人。本研究定義「活躍老化」為身體、心理、社會常面向同時運作良好的狀態，著重老年生活仍維持獨立與參與，指標包括日常生活活動(ADL)與工具性日常生活活動( IADL)均未失能(身體健康)：認知功能無失能與無憂症狀(心理健康)；具高度社會支特與參與生產力活動(社會健康)。「成功老化」定義為滿足日常生活中身體、心理、社會健康基本需求，指標包括ADL未失能：認知功能無失能與無憂鬱症；具有高度社會支持。統計預層次邏輯迴歸統計分析；探討個人層次因素與地區層次因素的影響。

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to describe successful aging and active aging among the Taiwan elderly by physical, mental and social health indicators, and to explore the effects of individual and area characteristics to provide the policy suggestions for the health promotion of the elderly. Methods: Data came from the 1999 “Survey of Health and Living Status of the Elderly in Taiwan”, samples were drawn from those aged 70 years or over, totally 2,130 persons. We defined “active aging”, an advanced criteria of elder health, included physical, mental and social dimensions and simultaneously running well, and emphasized the independence and participation. Active aging indicators included normal ADLs and IADLs for physical health, normal cognitive function and absence of depressive symptoms for mental health, and high social support and participation of productive activities for social health. Successful aging was defined as basic criteria of elder health, including indicators of normal ADLs, normal cognitive function and absence of depressive symptoms, and with high social support. Individual and area effects to successful/active aging were analyzed by multi-level logistic regression analysis.
