製造早期參與新產品開發活動的相關理論指出，功能部門的整合可以增加
組織資訊處理能力，提高績效，但只是概括性的概念。而且新產品開發活
動非常多，就成本面言，全面參與亦不見得有效。因此，製造單位應參與
那些新產品開發活動才能提高開發績效，實值探討。此外，這些相關的理
論並未提及部門整合時，整合部門應具備哪些能力，才能使整合達到績效
，本研究亦一併探討。本研究之主要構念的變項均經實地調查訪談，並經
產業領導廠商確認。並以汽車零組件業為研究對象，經由人員訪談，收
集139 份有效問卷，藉由因素分析、集群分析、區別分析、t 檢定、以及
雙因子變異數分析後，發現製造早期參與新產品開發活動和製造績效中的
計劃達成率有關，但對於品質、生產力並無顯著相關。此外，更進一步研
究則發現，受訪廠商在產品技術情報收集、市場需求調查、規格調查、財
務／協力廠生產可行性分析、生產線／設備／品質基準規格規劃、測試等
活動，若製造單位的參與程度較高，則其績效亦顯著提高。部門之間整合
時，部門間的相對能力亦應考慮，本研究發現，新產品開發活動完整程度
、製造能力對於製造早期參與和新產品開發的製造績效間的關係具有交互
作用。製造參與程度高，若能配合高製造能力或執行完整的新產品開發活
動，可以創造較佳績效。若參與程度高，但製造能力低，則對於績效反而
有害。參與程度高，但新產品開發活動執行不完整，其績效並未能顯著提
昇。最後，本研究建議廠商下游單位全面參與上游的設計開發活動並不見
得可以提高下游的績效，而是參與產品企劃，以期在產品設計之前，將製
造單位的限制、能力納入產品設計的考量，提高產品易製性；製造單位參
與測試，能立即回饋設計的缺失，縮短產品開發時間，提昇生產新產品的
生產力。此外，本研究並建議功能整合若能增加相對部門能力的前提，更
能增加組織的資訊處理能力。在決定製造是否參與新產品開發活動之前，
應先考慮製造、研發部門相對能力的配合，才能有較佳績效。　

The Early Manufacturing Involvement(EMI) theory has indicated
that functional integration can increase the organizations
infor- mation processing capability,hence improving performance.
However, the theory is only a conceptual description or built
upon case study.It lacks of enough empirical researches to
verify such a theory.Besides,the new product development(NPD)
process includes so many activities.It is not cost
justification to let the down stream involve in all of these
activities.The theory does not in- dicate the role of the
integrating party''s capability while the party intends to
increase its performance. The data were collected by
interviewing managers of the R&D and Operation of the major
Taiwaness Auto-Parts campanies.139 usable structured
questionnaires were collected.The major findings are as
following: (1)The degree of EMI is not significantly correlated
with the manufacturing performance of NPD.The manufacturing
department in sample firms with higher manufacturing
performance of NPD involve more in activities of product
planning stage and product testing stage. (2)The completeness
of NPD activity is significantly interact- ing with the degree
of EMI on the manufacturing performance of NPD except for the
quality dimension. (3)The manufacturing capability is
significantly interacting with the degree of EMI on the
manufacturing performance.
