題名:傳統教學相對電腦輔助教學於字彙學習

本研究目的旨在檢驗應用電腦輔助教學(CAI)於英語言課程對於工程學院大專生的詞彙學習提昇之成效。本研究對象為兩組建國科技大學工程學院的大一生。對照組採用以課堂上授課為主的傳統教學,而實驗組則是除了面授課之外還需利用課餘時間自行利用英語學習系統進行線上學習。對照組與實驗組各包含35名學生,以期末英語詞彙的學習表現來做比較。本研究的研究工具包括:前後測、問卷調查及課後訪問來蒐集研究資料。學生的前測與後測成績結果利用獨立樣本T檢定來檢驗兩次測驗是否具有顯著性的差異。問卷調查的數據則應用Matlab 工具箱中的研究分析法來檢測兩組學生對於此英語言課程滿意程度及其對於英語文辭彙學習成就的關聯性。課程結束後,實驗組的學生並接受簡短的訪問以便進一步的了解學生的學習反應。
實驗結果顯示,就整體而言,不論實施傳統教學法或輔助教學法,兩組學生在英語文辭彙學習成效上皆呈現非常顯著的進步。然而,兩組的進步平均分數並沒有顯著性的差異。至於不同性別的學習成效是否有差異,實驗研究結果發現對照組中的男生在後測成績總平均的表現較佳,而實驗組的後測成績總平均的表現則以女生較佳。然而,實驗組與對照組的男生與女生的平均分數並未達顯著差異。另外,從學生在學習成果的問卷調查結果的權重值皆顯示兩組學生對於此課程的滿意程度。此研究結果可做為教師未來在工程學院進行英語教學活動或設計數位學習課程時的重要參考,也可以讓學習者增強信心,學校整體教學成效也能藉此呈現。最後,本研究亦提出一些對於此語言學習系統融入英語教學及語言學習系統本身尚需提昇的建議與努力方向,以作為未來研究之參考。

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of computer assisted instruction (CAI) in language and vocabulary learning. Two groups (a control group and experimental group) from the College of Engineering of Chienkuo Technology University were used in the study. The Control group was taught using lecture-based conventional teaching and the experimental group was taught using web-based educational software. The Control group comprised 35 students as did the experimental group. The groups were compared based on their achievement of English vocabulary. The study was conducted in the first semester of the 2012-2013 academic year and ranged over 4 topics. Information on students’ performance was collected twice; at the beginning of the study and immediately after the completion of the course in a Pretest and Post-test quiz. A questionnaire to assess students’ vocabulary learning evaluation was given to both groups at the end of the course. A Matlab toolbox was used to study and measure the levels of satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the respective courses and to further compare their effectiveness based on the students’ responses to the questionnaire. In summary, students in the Experimental group performed slightly better than those in the Control group. Measured by pass rate there was virtually no difference between the two groups. Student responses to the questionnaire were more favorable in the Experimental group also. The evidence indicated that the English Learning System of Chienkuo Technology University is an effective English vocabulary learning tool and provides an element of advantage in teaching/learning compared to conventional lecture-based learning. More telling results were revealed from the questionnaire on the topics of Curriculum Planning and Materials Content, Teacher Competence and Communication Skills, Teaching Equipment Including Multimedia Applications. A further questionnaire ‘’Reaction after Participation in the Program” measured satisfaction overall to the respective teaching methods. Additional suggestions are made in the paper.
