This study examines the role of human capital (proxied by top manager’s prior work experience, employee general education, and employee training) and internationalization (proxied by foreign technology licensing, importing, and exporting) in product innovation, as well as the moderating role of absorptive capacity (proxied by employee training, R&D, and organizational innovation) in the internationalization–product innovation relationship in the ASEAN context. The study uses data from the “World Bank’s Enterprise Survey” (ES) and a wide variety of ordinal regression techniques for model estimation. In addition, the possible endogeneity problem is addressed by the propensity score matching (PSM) method. The results show robust evidence that human capital and internationalization positively affect the radicalness of product innovation. Moreover, employee training and R&D positively moderates the foreign technology licensing–innovation relationship, and organizational innovation positively moderates the importing/exporting–innovation relationship.
