The dissertation studies issues regarding economic growth, cross-border M&As, and international trade.
To begin, the first paper concentrates on Taiwan's economic expansion and the dynamic effect of foreign trade and investment. The overall value of exports and imports, as well as foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows and outflows, are all factors included in this analysis. An NARDL model is used to establish that long and short-term cointegrations are asymmetric, with the stronger influence of decreasing change dominating. Experimentation with FDI, international commerce, and economic development has yielded fresh insights on these linkages.
The second paper investigates the influence of patent rights enforcement on cross-border M&As. The relationship between these two variables is examined using cross sectional data spanning the years 1998 to 2017 and comprising 41 nations. By applying methodology of Feasible Generalized Least Squares (FGLS) and System Generalized Method of Moments (System GMM), a favorable influence of patent rights enforcement on host country's M&As inflows is revealed in empirical result. This finding is robust when classifying countries in groups of income level. Especially, the practical enforcement of patent rights shows strongly significant effect in all cases while the strength of patent rights has little impact on attracting M&As inflows. These findings contribute to an expeditiously increasing on the factors that influence international M&As. Additionally, it calls further attention on the enforcement of patent rights in different countries to attract overseas investment.
The third study examines the influence of Digitalization to reduce the detrimental impact of country difference on exports and imports. It employs the Euro Commission's Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) starting in 2015 to measure digitalization level of the European Countries, as well as its positive impact on declining international trade suffering from country distance. DESI's moderating influence on the connection between country distance and trade activity is evaluated using the System GMM technique. Empirical evidence has found to prove that DESI can positively moderate the unfavorable reaction of religion and geographic distance on international trade. Besides, DESI is also seen to help countries overcome language, administration, and economic gaps to promote export activities. This result offers encourage to implement digitalization in countries to stimulate international trade
