Based on social cognitive theory, this study examines the current status and relationship of senior high school students’ perceived teacher support, anxiety, self-efficacy, and engagement in terms of learning outcomes and multiple performances in the academic portfolio.
The questionnaire survey recruited students from 14 public secondary schools as the research group, and 911 valid questionnaires were collected. Multiple regression and bootstrapping methods were used to test the research hypotheses.
The results showed that 1. On average for ''learning outcomes'' and ''multiple performances'' in the academic portfolio, for students'' perceived teacher support, anxiety, self-efficacy and student engagement are at intermediate levels. 2. After controlling for gender and socio-economic status, anxiety and self-efficacy have sequential mediation effects on perceived teacher support and student engagement in ''learning outcomes'' and ''multiple performances'' in the academic portfolio. 3. Anxiety about ''learning outcomes'' and ''multiple performances'' in the academic portfolio has a positive effect on student engagement. In addition, anxiety about ‘learning outcomes’ and ‘multiple performances’ in the academic portfolio showed a significant difference by gender. Moreover, 3rd and 2nd year students showed a significant difference in anxiety about ''learning outcomes'' in the academic portfolio. Based on the results of the study, the researcher makes suggestions to the Ministry of Education, college management and future studies.
