This research investigates if a firm’s innovation is influenced by the presence of female managers or owners. It also examines the impact of bribery on innovation. Moreover, the moderating role of absorptive capacity in the gender-innovation relationship and the role of gender in moderating the bribery-innovation link are investigated. The World Bank's “Enterprise Surveys” provides the firm-level data used in this study. The main estimation approach is the multilevel mixed-effects logistic regression, an improvement of the classic logit estimation technique. This method is used to tackle the hierarchical issue. As a robustness test, the propensity score matching approach is used in this study to see if the main estimation results are robust to different empirical methods. The findings of the research show that companies with female top managers have a greater potential for innovation. Similarly, there is a favorable association between female ownership and the tendency to innovate. In addition, the favorable benefits of female management or ownership on the innovative potential of a company are augmented by R&D activities. Moreover, the chance of a company becoming innovative is increased when they pay kickbacks to government officials. When it comes to businesses that are either owned or controlled by women, bribe payments have a stronger tendency to grease the wheels of business in innovation.
