The telephone interview was conducted from November 15 to 24. 1014 residents of the area were interviewed. Based on survey data, we find that: (1) the residents of disaster areas, both the quake victims and ordinary people show their positive attitude to helping behavior, and it is very different from Taiwanese people to respond to the same question before the earthquake. (2) The victims of the earthquake express their pessimistic expectation about personal economic situation, quality of life, and the recent future, but they are optimistic regarding economy, public security, and the future of the whole society. (3) More husband-wife relations become better, while some fewer gets worse. Other familial relations become better. (4) Many residents show post disaster trauma syndromes. Quake victims are more serious than other residents in this respect. However, other residents who were hurt psychologically by the earthquake show pessimistic attitude to personal economy, quality of life, and the recent future.
