網路資訊的應用雖然潛力無窮，但是網路資訊亦有許多問題存在，其中之一即是網路資源檢索與使用的問題。本文首先回顧資訊組織的發展，進而說明在數位時代中網路資源編目的一些相關重要計畫，包括：USMARC欄位856的發展、InterCat計畫、NetFirst資料庫、Dublin Core Metadata Initiative的發展、CORC計畫等。最後則探討數位化資源組織未來的發展趨勢包括：處理對象多元化、多種詮釋資料並行、詮釋資料的來源、詮釋資料的功能、標準的運用、以及將資訊組織的觀念擴大運用於知識取用管理中。

　　　　　Potential applications of Internet resources are innumerable; however, many problems occurred with the application of Internet resources, one of them is information retrieval and use. This paper will first review the development of information organization, then to discuss some of the major projects associated with cataloging Internet resources, including the development of USMARC Field 856, InterCat Project, NetFirst database, Dublin Core Metadata Initiative, and CORC Project, etc. Lastly, it will discuss future trends of digital resources organization, including multi-media resources, parallel metadata, sources of metadata, functions of metadata, application of standards; and furthermore, to expand information organization concept into knowledge management.
