Traditional librarianship, with the confrontation of technological advances, is facing the problem of its divergent research scope and disciplinary typology. This problem arises due to the contention between theoretical orientations of librarianship and its practices as well as arises from the restrictions on its research preferences. The author suggests that the solution lies in investigating anew social theory. One of the quality of sociology on social studies, multiple perspectives, helps to guide the future of LIS. Besides, social theory is not separable from the research method in LIS and is helpful in problem-solving of LIS practices. This article indicates the inspirations that social theory elicit for research in LIS by taking information studies as an example.
