隱喻非只是替代而是意義有所創發，而通過隱喻可指出意義世界。哲學的詮釋便是不斷去揭露這種意義。這種意義是多重的，而存在於每一詞之中隱喻，也是多重的。呂格爾從文本出發，通過對語義理解，而達到結構語義的理解，而可以系統詮釋存在一切詞與話語中的多重意義；這足以表現出語言的豐碩，且非只指出一種關係，而是一種類比關係。呂格爾研究譬喻，將它與哲學使用比例類比來說明同異之間的奧祕。探討隱喻即是思考存在問題，而這也是哲學任務，在看似混亂不一的情境之中，發掘放之四海皆準的真理。其反省方法進路，可以說是由直接性迂迴地反省探討，而逼近其意涵，及其與存有的關係。

Metaphors are not the replacement but the creation of meaning, and the world of meaning can be shown through metaphors. Therefore hermeneutics is to expose the meaning incessantly. Such meaning is multiple, and the metaphor present in every word is also multiple. Ricoeur begins with the texts and, trough the semantic understanding, attains the comprehension of the structural meanings. Therefore he can systematically interpret the multiple meanings present in al words and phrases, which shows the richness of language and pinpoints not only a relationship but also an analogical relationship. Ricoeur studies the metaphor and takes it as a philosophical approach to illustrate mystery between sameness and difference. To explore the metaphor is to contemplate the issue of existence, and that is also the mission of philosophy-to find out the universal truth in a seemingly confused situation. Such a reflective approach is to explore meaning and its relation with being directly but going back and forth.
