The year 2000 is the centennial of the destruction of Hanlin Academy and Hanlin Library
in Qing Dynasty. This paper reviews the development of the cooperative research program of the
Destruction of Chinese Books in the Peking Siege of 1900 conducted by Professor Donald G. Davis,
Jr. (USA) and Professor Cheng Huanwen (China), and the extensive influence of this research in the
World. This paper summarizes the findings and results of the research, proves the fact that the
Westerners destroyed the Hanlin Academy and Hanlin Library, the largest library in Qing Dynasty,
in the Peking Siege of 1900, with both the evidences of historical records and photographs. At last,
the author appeals to the Western countries to return China the Chinese culture heritage they looted
