This paper mainly shows the creative traits expressed in Liu Yü-hsi and Pai Chü-I's poetry by paralleling the development of their talents with the vicissitudes of their lives. The two conspicuous poets of the T'ang Dynasty had their own backgrounds of cultivation and also quite different political ups and downs, and, therefore,each expressed his peculiar views of their times his own way. However, there was a remarkable spiritual congeniality between the two ,and their friendship did significantly interact with their poetic creations.
