本文皆在藉由產業組織理論中有關市場結構、行為與績效之基本理念與分析架構，並考量外商銀行業在台之業務拓展與經營情況，建構台灣地區外商銀行經營績效決定因素之反應模式。透過驗証過程，依其實証結果以發掘經營績所受影響因素，亦在其經營績效與競爭結構、經營策略有關因素交互影響的機制中，一併探討外商銀行業之市場績效及其與市場競爭態勢、經營行為之相關性。 基本上，本研究之實証結果指出台灣地區外商銀行業之產業特性屬獨佔競爭之市場型態，經營策略已由傳統的存放款業務朝向多元化產品與服務提供，也藉由創設行銷據點與網路服務來促進其經學績致更加發揮，以達其持續獲利之運作，其中涉及有關匯率變動影響外商銀行資金取得成本與利潤來源之經營行為，亦影響外商銀行整體經營績效，這些相關資訊不但有利於外商銀行健全營運並可提供國內金融體系中外商銀行與國內金融機構暸解兩者之互動性及擬定調過措施之參考。

The purpose of this study is to apply the theory of industrial organization to examine the operational performance and its relations to the industry competitive characteristics and business conduct of the foreign commercial banks in Taiwan area. The determinants of the market performance are empirically probed to analyze and review how the market structure and market conduct influencing the market process as well as operational performance. Basically, the empirical results indicate the major elements which affecting the operational performance of the foreign commercial banks and prove the linkage effects among competitive nature, business strategies and its market performance, and provide useful information and suggestions to promote the well-interactions between foreign and domestic commercial banks in Taiwan area.
