Along with prosperous advances in information technology and the coming of the knowledge-economy age, it has become a key factor in improving business competition and design effort that the knowledge-management system be concerned with acquiring, accumulating and sharing engineering knowledge. On the basis of this notion and the characteristics of the system, we consider the persons in the CAD lab and its network system to be a virtual team in this research and plan the construction of the system along with the experience in our design automation work for the press die. The system is set up under the environment of the Lotus Domino system and is modeled and analyzed with the UML (Unified Modeling Language) system for requirements such as man-machine interface, accessibility and flexibility of engineering knowledge in operation. Finally, the established knowledge-management system is demonstrated with the design process of a compound die.
