This article introduces the book The US Library of Congress and LC Subject Headings by Professor Lois Mai Chan of the Library and Information Science at the University of Kentucky and Mr. Lin Kuo-ch'iang of the Library of Congress. This monograph is the first Chinese language text to systematically introduce the subject headings of the USA's Library of Congress. Previously local bibliographers of Western works and professors who taught classes on cataloging in general directly read works in English or tried to learn from some journal articles in Chinese. As this Chinese language work is systematic, it naturally will be of great assistance to young scholars here. This article reviews the contents of this new edition. After discussing the organization of the Library of Congress, it introduces the catalog and thoroughly explores the subject cataloging of the Library of Congress, including cataloging principles, structure of subject catalogs, subdividing catalogs, subject analysis and selection of subject headings, subject heading references, the library's automated information system, main tools for subject cataloging, etc. I believe that this monograph will give inspiration and act as a valuable reference to preparing local Chinese subject headings and thesaurus or other related cataloging tools.
