Extremely rich as regards their intension, the capitals of ancient China in different historical periods are on a vast scale and in large numbers due to the change of dynasties. This paper is devoted to ordinary Chinese cities, which are also numerous because of the change of periods. Representative ordinary cities are chosen and analysed in the paper, and maps are drawn by the author, on the basis of his on-the-spot survey year after year. These maps are without exception valuable firsthand material, and their publication in this paper can be used for reference by experts and scholars doing research on Chinese cities.
