At the present stage, Communicative Approach is a more popular teaching method for the TCSL (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language). When applying the communicative Approach, teachers not only have to instruct Chinese knowledge and basic rules, but also have to demonstrate how to use Chinese to communicate in specific contexts. "What to teach" and "how to teach" are two fundamental problems of language teaching. The former indicates the teaching context, in other words, the teaching material; the latter mainly presents itself in the teaching methods. Training students' communicative abilities has thus become the consensus of foreign language teaching; however, for every teacher, it is not easy to spend a lot of time designing the classroom communicative sessions in every class. Therefore, when editing teaching materials, we must widely consider the teaching period and absorb the content of teaching method. Good teaching materials not only has to solve the problem of "what to teach," but also has to consider the problem of "how to teach." This article uses the primary general classes as the field of discussion. This article focuses on discussing the main characteristics of communicative approach, the relationship between teachers and students, the editing of teaching material and the executive salience. Consequently, this article recommends that teaching material should endeavor to embody the communicative rules; in other words, we have to integrate real communicative activities into interesting language material. The task of primary general classes is to solve the most basic language problem of students in daily life. In teaching content, it requires to choose the most commonly used and needed issues and choose the language material which is used most frequently and practically. The teaching material has to fully reflect the teaching idea and classroom teaching techniques of Communicative Approach and then it can make students acquire the communicative techniques and relative language knowledge, and promote the communicative abilities by learning and practicing.
