The purpose of this research is mainly to examine and discuss the characteristics of the skill of those excellent male tennis players who compete in single events. The top sixteen players of the CPC Tennis Competition in the Taipei tennis stadium were observed with cameras for examining their performance, especially their serve. Through records and analyses, we arrive at "the statistics of description". The results of the research are as follows: In terms of the patterns of holding the racquet, full-windmill is the most common choice for the serve. Regarding the serve stance, the FU serve stance can provide a better opportunity to front the net; the FB is beneficial for the tactics of staying around the baseline. The pattern of serving and then stepping backward, which should be acquired by the players through incessant training and practices. The pattern of serving and approaching the net by quick stepping is good for those, who are tall, muscular, fast and destructive in movement, and speculative, to develop the followthrough serve. In contrast, those who are undersized but with strong physical strength and the ability of drawing the ball around the baseline at the clay-court can develop the pattern of staying and striking the ball around the baseline. Regarding the position of receiving the first service, players are mostly standing at the position near the baseline for the distance of around 0.5~ 1 racquet. However, receivers should stand forward appropriately in the feeble second serve in order to gain some better opportunity for striking the ball back to the opponent. In the pattern of forehand grip, more than eighty percent of players adopt Western forehand grip and the main gripping way is single hand. As for the backhand grip, the Eastern backhand (single hand) grip and Continental backhand grip are good for spinning ball. In the pattern of stroke stance, players can adopt both open and close stance reciprocally. However, open stance will be the primary one if the players focus on the forceful serve.
