This article attempts to offer a systematic interpretation and construction of the concepts of ching 精, ch’i 氣, and shen 神 in Chuang Tze 莊子, especially with respect to practical methods 工夫 and mystical experience 境界, in order to explain the relationship between these three concepts in terms of their stages and the developmental process. In short, the author uses the concept of the “continuity of Being” to explain the differences between and the unity of these three concepts. The author also tries to show that these three terms are not just a set of concepts relating to the conception of the body, but at the same time also interact with the language of spirituality, ontology, and practical methods. While the Authentic Man 真人 plays with the cosmic vibration of inner metaphysical experience, the three dimensions of spiritual body, mystical consciousness and transcendental Tao gain their relationship of radical identity.
