This study aims to explore the effects of different exercise habits on physical fitness. The subjects of study are 374 new students entering Hsing Wu college in 2002, with 78 males and 296 females. The subjects were given questionnaire on exercise habits as well as physical fitness tests. The data gathered were analyzed by t-tests, one-wat ANOVA and Scheffe method for posterior comparisons. The findings are: 1.Different exercise habits cause significant variance in physical fitness in male students with respect to cardiopulmonary endurance (p<.05). 2.Different exercise habits cause significant variance in physical fitness in female students with respect to muscular endurance and cardiopulmonary endurance (p<.05). 3.Comparison of male student physical fitness with the norm of all college students in Taiwan region and with the national norm: (1)the average body mass index of the male students measure far below both the national and all college norms; (2)the male students measure lower in flexibility, explosive power and cardiopulmonary endurance than the national and all college norms; (3)the male students measure higher in muscular power and muscular endurance than the national and all college norms. 4.Comparison of female student physical fitness with the norm of all college students in Taiwan region and with the national norm: (1)the average body mass index of the female students measure higher than the national norm but lower than the all college norms; (2)the female students measure lower in flexibility, explosive power and cardiopulmonary endurance than the national and all college norms; (3)the female students measure higher in muscular power and muscular endurance than both the national and all college norms.
