The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of cooperative learning on elementary students' English learning. This study was a cooperative action research which lasted for almost a semester. A total of 35 fifth graders participated in the study. Qualitative methods were used to collect data, including observation, questionnaires, interviews, field notes as well as other related documents. The majojr findings of this study were as follows: 1. The students had more opportunities to use English in the cooperative learning environment. Their interests in English learning also increased. 2. The students' learning attitude became more active and positive. Most of them engaged in using English more frequently after the practice of cooperative learning. Moreover, they realized that they should be more responsible for their own learning and they also better understood the importance of cooperation with others. 3. Cooperative learning facilitated cultivation of better relationship among students. The teacher adopted heterogeneous grouping, which helped the students improve their interpersonal skills.
