自1990年以來,受到國內外政治、經濟、社會等因素之影響,以及終身學習與學習社會理念的推動,臺灣的高等教育產生了巨幅的變遷,不僅大學數量擴充,傳統學生人數急速增加,各大學也同時必須回應社會大眾急速增長的繼續教育的需求,這使得大學不再是一個封閉性、階段性的教育機構。本研究以教育部統計數據與大學推廣教育單位主管之訪談內容資料為基礎,探討近十幾年來在高等教育擴張的脈絡下,國內大學推廣教育發展之樣貌。研究發現,自1990年代以來國內大學推廣教育呈現急速擴張的趨勢,並且成為大學與社會互動的重要場域,在職成人學生的出現也影響了大學教師的教學過程。 藉由本研究的探討,希望能有助於高等教育機構進一步思考大學推廣教育的大量擴充對高等教育體系所產生的衝擊,以及大學教育目標、教育內涵以及可能需要的結構轉變。
Since 1990, under the influence of political, economic, and social factors of various sorts, and especially with the promotion of the notion of "lifelong learning" and "learning society", we have witnessed an unprecedented expansion of Taiwan's higher education. Not only did the numbers of universities grow exponentially with more and more traditional students entering universities, but various sorts of adult education institutions were responsively set up to meet the public demands for continuing education. In consequence, the universities were no more a close education institution. Based on the data of the Ministry of Education statistics, and the interview of the administrators in charge of the program, the purpose of this study attempts to explore the development of university extension program within the context of higher education expansion and marketization. The research findings suggest that there is a discernible trend of rapid expansion of university extension program since 1990. In addition, the extension program has also become a crucial field and an important platform of university-society interaction. Moreover, the entrance of adult students into universities also reshape university teachers' teaching process. Hopefully, this study can help us shed light into investigating the impact of university extension program expansion on the current higher education system, the future goal, curriculum and the possibly required structural transformation of our university education system.
