Although various characters have been used in seal engraving, oracular-inscriptions, the herald of Chinese characters, seem not one of them and mainly functioned as divination words on tortoise shells and bones. However, going along with the great development of excavating cultural relics in the past hundred years, there are more discoveries about the studies of oracular inscriptions and more extensive discussions about the usage of oracular inscriptions in different styles of art. Among the seal engraving artists coming from Mainland China to Taiwan, Mr. Tung Tso-pin made more attempts at using oracular inscriptions in seal engraving. The author tries to analyze more than ten of Mr. Tung’s oracular-inscription-used seals. Through the analysis, there should be more understanding about the artist’s use of different characters and editions of reference books, various forms of seal engraving and multiplicity of his seal engraving skills. Also, it may provide other artists some information and inspiration while engraving their own seals.
