耐力運動訓練可能會影響肌纖維類型的轉變,進而發生白肌轉變成紅肌的現象,使骨骼肌中紅肌所佔的比率增加,同時提升骨骼肌之有氧能力。當骨骼肌有氧能力增加時,可減少骨骼肌細胞凋亡的現象,因此,耐力運動促使肌纖維類型轉變的調控機制可能與細胞凋亡作用具有相關性存在,其主要的相關性可能與p38有絲分裂活化蛋白質酵素(p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase, p38 MAPK)及鈣離子二個細胞凋亡之訊息傳遞分子有關,因此二分子均具有調控肌纖維轉型之肌細胞促進因子2 (myocyte enhancer factor 2, MEF2)的功能。經文獻探討後,推測骨骼肌細胞凋亡與骨骼肌肌纖維類型轉變之間可能具有一前一後的因果關係,使肌肉在耐力運動訓練後達到提升有氧能力的適應效果。
