The author discussed the contents, factors, and focuses of education for sustainable development, using theories and practices in England to explore implications for Taiwan. Furthermore, the characteristics of sustainable development in high schools, the curriculum plans, and the strategies for developing sustainable schools are also discussed. The conclusion offers feasible suggestions for sustainable development education in high schools in Taiwan. Our biggest challenge in this new century is to take an idea that seems abstract--sustainable development--and turn it into a reality for all the world's people.
