This study investigated the relationship between passion and dependence among recreational tennis players as well as the differences between exercise dependence at high-or low-level and harmonious-passion and obsessive-passion players. The participants were 103 recreational tennis players (81 males, 22 females) recruited from six different tennis clubs in Taipei. The average age was 48.32 years old, the average tennis playing year was 14.26 years, and the average tennis playing frequency was 3.79 times a week. With the participants' agreement, they filled a questionnaire to examine the level of passion for and addiction to tennis. There were two results from this study. First, there was a positive correlation between the total scores of the addiction and each of the two sorts of passion, but there was a higher correlation between the total scores of the addiction and the obsessive passion. Second, there were significant differences between high or low-level of exercise dependence and the obsessive passion only. The conclusion from this study was that there were positive correlations between harmonious passion, obsessive passion and dependence among recreational tennis players, and there were a higher correlation between the obsessive passion and the exercise dependence.
