The purpose of this study was to realize the current management and operation status (including the advantage towards the management styles and the difficulties on operations), and the future planning and development of sports parks in Kaohsiung County, Kaohsiung City, and Pingtung County (so-called KaoKaoPing district). Six sports parks located in KaoKaoPing district were studied. Data were collected through observations, site inspections, and interviews. Six park managers/operators were interviewed in order to understand the current management and operation status, and the future planning and development of the surveyed sports parks. In regards to the current management and operation status, findings of the research included: a) Sports parks in KaoKaoPing district were mostly managed by local governments including township hall or city hall units. Most sports parks were surrounded by school zones or located in rural areas; b) The six surveyed sports parks had their unique features and were multi-functional; and, c) Four types of management were found in surveyed sports parks in KaoKaoping district, and they were self-maintained, resident claimed-to-be-maintained, non-profit organization claimed-to-be-maintained, and private operator recruitment.
