Pedro Almodóvar (1947-) is the cultural symbol of the restoration of democracy is Spain after nearly 40 years of Franco's dictatorship. Certain critics affirm than it is the use of hybridity that classifies Pedro Almodóvar as a postmodern film aker. Hable con ella (2002) is a postmodern film in which Almodóvar incorporates and juxtaposes narrative and artistic elements to present an acute critique of the restrictive boundaries of sign systems. It is the three artistic sequences such as the dance, the song, and the silent film that intervene or interact with the narration of the work; and, undoubtedly, they are closely related to the different themes of the film, which include the body, incommunication, and performance. The present essay aims to analyze the corporal images and representations, and to explore how the priority of spoken language over body language will be inverted and how the meaning of communication will become an elusive desire. Furthermore, we will study how Almodóvar maintains his postmodern concept of performance relating to the themes of Hable con ella.
