Shangdu traveling poetry is one of the major motifs in the Yuan poetry. As we know, there were two capital cities in the Yuan Dynasty. The king would hunt from Shangdu to Peking as the changing of the seasons every year and the poems were written through the journey. However, what makes the poems so different from the previous frontier poetry? Firstly, the region between the two cities used to be frontiers in the Han Dynasty, yet it was the domain of the Yuan Dynasty. Secondly, from its type it is like the frontier poetry, the essence is not. Thus, there was no mention of conflicts between Ham and Nomad in the poems. In this paper, the author deemed that the Shangdu traveling poetry is to depict local scenery of the Great Wall and Juyongguan. Moreover, the structures of feeling and genius loci of "frontier" wou1d be probed, too.
