Being one of the prominent teachings in the Chou Dynasty, the Mohists have their distinguishing perspectives in ethics, politics, economics, and so on. The Mohist's literary view is demonstrated in the chapter of "Scarcity of Music". In this article, I take studies of former scholars as references and attempt to clarify several questions that are related to the literary views in The Mohist. In the very beginning, I want to discuss whether the concept of scarcity of music in The Mohist is to disclaim the status of music or does it have other intentions? Secondly, what does "music" in the "Scarcity of Music" mean? Does it mean to resist the superfluous music, or to resist all kinds of music, or does it refer to sundry entertainment in human beings' dally life? Besides, I also want to identify what is the relationship between The concept of the scarcity of music and the literary views in The Mohist. Does the Mohists' literary view affect their emphasis on quality rather than the meretricious appearance and emphasis on dispute? These are the points in this article.
