一般在運動領域中，眼睛被稱爲外在本體感受器(extrapropriceptor) (Lee, 1978)，因爲所有的運動員都需要透過視覺反應來判斷環境訊息然後做出決策，所以瞭解視覺控制，也就是知道選手對於訊息接收的來源。本文透過視覺研究發現與應用的相關文獻加以整合、歸納與分析，主要目的爲建立視覺控制研究於運動訊息擷取上之依據。本文藉由眼球控制在生心理相關研究提出視覺研究的可能性；再以Vickers (2007)對眼睛凝視控制的分類建立運動視覺研究論述的基礎；最後綜合國外以眼動儀器在運動場上發現的實證結果。作者發現，在不同領域中瞭解視覺的研究皆發現眼睛的注視，有相當程度表示人類訊息的擷取來源；運動場上的高爾夫、籃球、飛鏢、射擊、撞球、棒球、接球表現、網球落點、足球進攻研究中，也發現優秀的運動選手與生手在視覺訊息上有凝視時間與凝視頻率上的差異。
