A well-designed geographic textbook was always using maps to illustrate geographic knowledge. Map symbols been distributed on map that can depicted the spatial patterns of geographic objects and phenomena precisely. Therefore, maps are the best tool to display and translate geographic notions and relationship of spatial environment, and they are always used for teaching assistant in regional geographic courses. But in the actual case, maps are always replaced by written words by students. It is thought that the poor-quality of maps on geographic textbook was the main reason. The purpose of this article is to discuss the teaching problems that arose by poor and irrelevant design of maps that on most adopted textbooks in regional geographic course. Besides, the efficiency of active use of maps in teaching course was also discussed. This paper aimed at the obstacles of teaching environment of geographic course that practiced under the 1-9 years series teaching program. It has found some solutions that can solve the teaching problems in the teachers, textbook producers, and educational department of government parts. The final goal of the discussion is to promote the level of geographic education and map-using ability of students in geographic course, so as to help the students to know the world of other parts from its own place by use of the tool of maps. This has also become one of the new main topics in our education reform.
