Taipei MRT Luzhou line’s direct fixation fastener (DFF) non-ballast special trackwork rests on the same type of slab as those adopted for MRT lines currently in service. Installation of the fasteners plays a key role in the construction of successful special trackwork, in particular, the evenness of the fastener position is a strict requirement. However, DFF features easy operation, allows space of passage during construction as well as assured quality. In the pre-operation of Luzhou line’s non-ballast special trackwork, after the track slab is cast in-situ, the quality of DFF non-ballast special trackwork will depend on the procedures to build-in the anchor male cone and the quality of the bearing surface in this crucial step in the installation stage, even though these activities constitute only a part of the overall assembly work. This paper addresses the work sequence and details of these two major activities, i.e. fastener insert implanting and base-plate bearing surface finishing, which are implemented in the Taipei MRT Luzhou line. Also, associated benefits compared with corresponding activities applied in previous MRT construction are discussed, intending to provide a reference for future Taipei MRT construction.
