This paper aims to discuss the importance of table tennis doubles. Since 1988, table tennis has been an Olympic sport which includes four events: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles and women's doubles. Besides, since 1990, the Table Tennis World Championships has held men's doubles and women's doubles every two years, which indicates the important meanings and functions of the doubles. Therefore, every country constantly increases training, offers funds, and holds large competitions of different levels, which has greatly enhanced the quality of the doubles for observing and learning. We have found that in the past most of the coaches, players, organizations, and schools are generally not enthusiastic about doubles; doubles players are paired up just before the start of a game, which often directly affects the results of the whole team in a team competition. Therefore, for reference, we present the development process of doubles, importance and characteristics, training methods, the cultivation of sense, and how to make a pair. For example, it is very important to develop players' "interests" in table tennis, and in a team competition, doubles pair can often be very powerful and successful if they use different rubbers. In addition, if one is the right-handed and the other left-handed, and if one stands close to the table and the other far from the table, both of the doubles players can bring their skills into full play, actively attacking their opponents, stopping their opponents from attacking, and using their personal skills to the largest extent in the first four strokes. This paper is devoted to the sport of table tennis.
