鞋墊依功能性分為保健鞋墊、矯正鞋墊及增高鞋墊;不同屬性的鞋墊其材質之硬度、密度等均不相同,故支撐性、延展性、彈性、勁度、硬度、張力等物理性也都有所差異。從過去文獻,不同鞋墊硬度介入對人體著地動作的影響其結果並不一致且有所衝突;可能因為各實驗所使用的鞋款及鞋中外底材質的不同影響,或鞋墊軟硬度定義的不統一,甚至是受試者個體間存在的差異性等,因而影響了結果。另外在常見的一般鞋墊材質中(聚酯泡沫墊、乳膠墊、EVA),整體就能量回傳及吸震效果等物理性而言,EVA材質似乎較其他材質優越。
