Songkang Chung Chul (1536~1593) is a famous poet in Joseon times, and he is also renowned as the representative one who is good at writing gasa and shijo in the Korean literary history. His writings including 《松江集》 and 《松江歌辭》 which were written in prose collection and 《松江別集追錄歌辭》 and 《文清公遺辭》 which were pen comp books .The above writings are total 741 Chinese poems, 4 lengthy gasas and 85 short shijos.Although there are only 52 poems related to the alcoholic drinks, there are 275 poems used many relating words which made up more than one-third part of his whole poems. Among the relating words he used, the word ”酒” appeared 164 times; the next is the word ”醉” which appeared 82 times and ”杯(盃)” appeared 59 times. All these showed how Song-Kang loves alcoholic drinks and explained why he uses the alcoholic drinks as his subject matter when he writes. While Songkang worked in the royal or imperial government, he was pushed out from a group since his love for alcoholic drinks. Nevertheless, he accepted his predestined relationship with alcoholic drinks and made fun of himself as a deity who just came to this world. Songkang was famous for drunkenness in his old age; it is not exaggerate to say that Songkang's life was made up by the alcoholic drinks.For a poet who considered the alcoholic drinks as his friends both in creating literary works or in his life, Songkang depicted his life, his feelings through the alcoholic dinks; how should we view his life with literary works and alcoholic drinks? In his writings, what kind of symbolizing meanings the alcoholic drinks have? What is the real reason that caused him to have the alcoholic drinks into his writings? What is the point he tried to convey? This paper takes the alcoholic relating poems in Songkang's Chinese poems as a subject, sort them out as exchange poems, lyric poetry and scenery poetry, try to probe into and study about those images hidden in Songkang's alcoholic relating poems and so to contrast the differences between those images.
