The positioning of Zhuzi’s philosophy has discrepancies among historical and modern scholars. Modern scholars have largely criticized Zhuzi’s philosophy from the principles of Confucianism. This paper organizes the contents of critique by scholars such as Feng You-lan, Hsu Fu-guan, Mou Tzong-san, Lao Si-guang, and Liu Shu-hsian. The discourses of this paper include aspects of values, state of mind, ontology, temperament, practice and thinking structure. The investigation finds that each aspect of Zhuzi’s philosophy contains significant and almost unconquerable obstacles, specifically, the values pursued by Zhuzi and traditional Confucianists do not completely match; Zhuzi may not voluntarily experience the state of saints; Zhuzi has no clear understanding of ontology; Zhuzi has no comprehensive understanding of temperament; Zhuzi’s practice in exploring matters does not correspond to becoming saints; Zhuzi’s discourse of thoughts may be disordered; the difficulties of Zhuzi’s principles of Confucianism may be all-around.However, whether the critiques above are valid should be further studied, and thus, is not covered in this paper. Future researches will aim to discuss the above critiques.
