傳統上社會大眾通常以正面且積極的角度，認定休閒本身應該表現出有益的形式，並對社會做出積極的貢獻。其中"recreation"由於內含正面積極的活動意義，也成爲目前大眾最熱衷討論的休閒形式。但在休閒的正面效應下，許多學者卻同時忽略其重要的文化面向及跨領域的影響力，傾向於將休閒以好的角度來詮釋各式的社會議題，並一致化各式團體的休閒參與模式，忽略了休閒概念中可能導致偏差行爲的現象。因此，本研究的目的乃是站在一個客觀的層面，以青少年的休閒參與模式爲討論的主要對象，企圖對休閒可能產生的負面效應提出論述，並釐清休閒與偏差行爲的關聯，及休閒在青少年團體中所扮演的角色和造成的影響，進而對此議題提出想法與建議。
