Sustainable development has become a worldwide trend. As global warming worsens, carbon emission reduction is an important agenda item internationally. Renewable and green energy technology is successfully progressing. Alternative energy is viewed as an important step to replace carbon emission so as to improve the environment. Developing renewable and alternative energy has become a critical element for each nation. The Taiwan Government has drafted ‘The Energy Policy of the Taiwan Area’ to encourage renewable energy applications. It is expected to lower carbon emissions and increase energy conservation. This study takes the photovoltaic scooter sheds at the south campus in Shu-Te University as an example. The current scooter parking areas have many problems such as poor traffic circulation and unsystematic parking spots. These issues have been widely criticised. Thus, a photovoltaic system is constructed to improve the internal traffic circulation and enhance the campus landscape. This study analyzes relevant costs and climate factors regarding solar energy. Photovoltaic shed styles and payback estimation on subsidies are also examined. The wholesale electric rates by the Taiwan Power Company are evaluated. Green energy development and educational meanings are also discussed.
