This case report discussed the nursing experience of a 19 year-old young female suffering from dermatomyositis for the very first time. The authors used Gordon 11 items of functional health condition to evaluate health status of the client from 5 May to 15 July 2010. The health problems were: impaired swallowing, disturbed body image, and caregiver role strain. The authors provided continuous and initiative caring attitude and built a trusting relationship with the client. The strategies of listening and empathy were applied to encourage the client to talk about her feelings. We discussed the goals of treatment with the clients' parents through interdisciplinary team conference in order to increase the awareness of the disease, and to decrease the extent of anxiety. We hope these interventions could help prevent contraindications of the disease and enable the client to receive more psychological support in order to reach the wellbeing of physiology, psychiatry and spirituality.
