題名:如何從學術論文之統計量數計算效果量:以Cohen d、η²與ω²為例

假設考驗是目前推論統計最常使用的方法,近年來假設考驗受到專家學者的質疑,他們建議應在論文中報告效果量 (effect size, ES),以彌補虛無假設的不足。ES是衡量實驗效應 (estimating treatment magnitude)或者自變項與依變項間關聯強度的指標。本文擬以在國內學術論文中所呈現的 t與 F考驗,由此兩種考驗方法所呈現的統計量數,進一步舉例說明常被使用的 ES (Cohen d、η2與 ω2) 計算公式,目的在提醒國內研究者不要忽略此 ES的重要性。
This article provides a simplified methodology for calculating Cohen’s d, η2 and ω2 effect sizes from published experiments that use t-tests and F-tests. Whereas statistical tests of significance tell us the likelihood that experimental results differ from chance expectations, effect-size measurements tell us the relative magnitude of the experimental treatment. They tell us the size of the experimental effect. Effect sizes are especially important because they allow us to compare the magnitude of experimental treatments from one experiment to another.
