As the technology breakthrough of U.S. shale gas, it drives global energy revolution and change in recent years. The shale gas has the advantages of low carbon emissions, low cost and high reserves. However, it needs further evaluation on the development of shale gas for the impact on the environment, the overestimated prospects and the national conservative attitudes. The exports of U.S. shale gas are currently subject to regulations, facilities and market compartments, and therefore are not easy to be done in the short time. However, it still has the indirect effects on the global energy market. In addition, due to the pressure of global greenhouse gases emission, the shale gas revolution on the impact of renewable energy has become an important issue. This study focused on the possible impact of shale gas on global, U.S. and Taiwan’s renewable energy development, and the results for Taiwan are the limited impacts in the short-term and delaying the grid parity in the long-term. Under the shale gas revolution, the natural gas should be an import role for energy transition for our country, and it makes us have the time to promote renewable energy and actively involved in development of renewable energy related technologies in the long-term.
