This paper examines the historical context of stools in wooden furniture and locates the Taiwanese furniture in the history of furniture. For more than one hundred years, Taiwanese wooden furniture integrates Chinese, Japanese, and Western styles and characters. This paper will look at such a process of development and evolution in terms of the cultural exchanges and trace how the traditional furniture enters the contemporary arena of life aesthetics. Finally, this paper will attempt to speculate on the cultural depth of Taiwanese furniture, its contemporary values, and some possible directions of future development.
