西方關於交叉壓力導致「政治不參與」的研究頗多，近年來國 內以美國模型為依據，引進交叉壓力論述並進行經驗測試的研究也 有一些，本文整合中外有關交叉壓力的假設進行經驗檢證。本文統 稱不參與各種政治活動的行為為「政治不活動」。問題意識為：是 否交叉壓力導致政治不活動？是否特定的政治參與種類特別容易受 到交叉壓力的影響？是否由「社會學派」衍生而出的交叉壓力，也 存在「社會心理學派」衍生而出的對照變項：「避免衝突」呢？是 否避免衝突也導致政治不活動呢？與不同對象，如家人、朋友、鄰 居與同事，因政治立場不同所產生的交叉壓力與避免衝突，在導致政治不活動的結果上有何不同？本文運用「臺灣民主與選舉化調查 2008 年立法委員選舉面訪資料」（獨立樣本），發現與家人、朋友產 生的交叉壓力，會抑制投票行為，也會延遲投票時間。但是與同 事、鄰居產生的交叉壓力，反而驅動投票與拉票行為，也縮短決定 投票意向的時間，顯見與同事的歧異性刺激投票行為。再者，避免 衝突的變項預測政治不活動的能力有限，但配合「與鄰居有不同政 治立場」時，避免衝突的程度越高，在選舉中拉票的機率越低。最 後，本文進行兩階段最小平方法，檢證交叉壓力、避免衝突與政治 參與之間的因果關係。
