The lion dance, a performance which simulates the behavior of lions, includes a variety of art forms such as dance, theater, martial arts, acrobatics and music. It presents a finest combination of different fine arts. According to historical data, a large number of Han people immigrated to Taiwan between the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Ching Dynasty, and they brought along with them their (Han) cultures and customs. Therefore, the art of lion dance was introduced to the locals in Taiwan during that period of time, and it has already been successfully and thoroughly integrated into Taiwanese society. The lion dance has become one of the most important folk performing arts in Taiwan.This paper presents the results of our research and study on Taiwan lion dance in a comprehensive manner, covering not only a historical perspective and geographic distribution of the dancers, but also categories ranging from props to performance forms, content, and so on.This research will also deliver insights concerning the analysis and documentation of Taiwan lion dances and musical performance art. This research combined a review of relevant documentation and a perform data analysis. The resulting insights will provide perspective on Taiwan lion dances and musical performance art. We sincerely hope that this study will provide some more related research materials and further contribution to the academic and educational fields.
