QR Code is a sort of 2D barcodes; it carries much more data than traditional barcodes with encoding the same amount of data as well as a smaller printout size. Another advantage is that QR Code is capable of 360 degree reading. Since the Japanese telecommunications operator, NTT DoCoMo, installed the application of QR Code Reader on smartphone, it is widely used in the fields of mobile commerce, marketing, education and production management. The aim of this project is initially to discuss the development trends of mobile devices and tourism, and then the worldwide practical applications of QR Code for tourism related fields are discussed. Finally, summarize these practical applications as a suggestion and reference for the tourism related business to make use of QR code in the future.
