The undergraduate or bachelor’s degree curriculum should include a broader college experience, with general and liberal learning being the most important study courses. This approach would develop the liberal arts values and skills required for a variety of professions and careers. The purpose of this course arrangement is to facilitate the incorporation of local color, arts and mathematical skills in science courses. By beginning the course with history, students can be led through to the scientific theme of membrane structures. This course includes investigations into the structural stability of membranes and the development of a loft, which is a variant of a 3D wireframe volume object and is a technique used in 3D modeling packages. It is important that students are assisted in understanding the mathematical skills required for developing technical or specialized skills as technological advances require strong mathematical skills to support technology based careers.
