The fifteen documents about the early relationship between Macau and America, which were stored in Arquivos Nacionais da Torre do Tombo, are extremely important for the study of US-Macau relations. They should be recognized as being of greater importance in the academic circle. These materials include: (1) the investigation into whether an America ship carried dragon skin in 1791(乾隆五十六年); (2) the treatment of the two British and America ships stopping at Taipa(潭仔) in 1804(嘉慶九年); (3) the treatment of America’s shipwreck floating to Macau in 1806(嘉慶十年); (4) the treatment of American privateers(嗲吧時船) storing bronze bars in Macau’s cidade( 咑館); (5) the treatment of the expelled American ship(吻嘰船) from Macau in 1813(嘉慶十八 年); (6) about the American merchant Forbes ’s(跛時) capture of thieves in 1844(道光二十三年) and demands for the government’s involvement. Combined with other materials, some unknown truths about the early US-Macau relations can be discovered after careful examination of these files.
