Both Feng You-lan and Fang Thome studied in the States and applied western philosophies to Laoze's metaphysics, which they both highly valued. Feng saw the western scholarship of metaphysics as the "positive approach", employing logic and analysis, while Chinese metaphysics employed the "negative approach", focusing on experience and intuition. Fanag Thome, on the other hand, exploited Bergson and Whitehead's organism in his interpretation of Laoze. Comparing Feng's and Fang's interpretations about metaphysics, this article points out their similarities and differences, while focusing on their visions and perspectives about Laoze's metaphysics.
